I’ve Lost Ignition Keys To An Old Dodge Truck. What Is The Best Route To Go?

It’s been sold so I need to figure out the cheapest option. Do I have a locksmith re-key it and ho much would it cost? Or does Auto-Zone or Checker sell new ignition locks with keys?? Thanks in advance!!

i just priced an ignition switch for my 89 ford truck-$17.00, and then you will probably need a streering wheel puller, another 10-15, and a few hours labor to put it in. a locksmith will charge 50-100 dollars. you might try the local dealership. i know that gm dealers(some, not all) can cut you a key just from the VIN number. you have to have proof of ownership(title), and they will probably charge less than 20 to cut a new key to fit the truck.
Good luck

If you want to keep the ignition switch and the keys stock original, have a locksmith re-key the lock. If you are not concerned with stock original, do what the other guys suggested, purchase a new ignition switch from an auto parts supply house. I had a ’56 Suburban where the door keys and the ignition key were the same, and I wanted to keep them stock. I had a locksmith remedy the problem.

Take the trip to autozone and buy a new ignition… honestly will be the cheapest and easiest way to go… good luck!

Yes that is what I was going to say, it would be better to change the whole thing, its not to hard to change. Yes Auto Zone or Advance Auto or Checkers, which is less than $30.

Yeah, easiest and cheapest is to hit an auto parts store and pick up a new ignition switch. They are easy to install too.
