How Could I Get A Magnetic Lock To Interface With My Computer?
2 Comments | Posted by admin in Lock
I want to have a computerized door locking system – to control all of the door locks in my house from one or more places (desktops). How would I go about doing this? It would be nice to be able to hook up a mag-lock through USB or something. It would be even nicer to have some sort of unlocking/locking command-line utility that I could build a GUI around. Anything that will work for Windows, or Linux would be fine.
Thanks.

Look at the MisterHouse project. There may be somebody that’s done this. I know it can interface with 1-wire and X-10 devices and people have made interfaces to relay control boards for operating electric blinds/curtains. So chances are if someone hasn’t done it, it shouldn’t be that difficult to incorporate such a feature into the program. It’s open source, web interface and the programming is in perl.

Use a PLC, it’s easier.
Or control solid state relays via an interface board and run your cabling to the areas you need to control.
