Top 6 Security Locks

1) Cylindrical Lock – these types of locks are the undoubtedly the simplest and most affordable type of security lock. They consist of a simple yet robust lock fixture that is installed within the door through a 2-3 inch wide hole. On either side of the door a nob or lever is installed so that the door can be opened or closed. Some types of cylindrical lock will have a built in cylinder which requires a key in order to operate it. Other cylindrical locks will be designed with a simple latch mechanism. These locks are the simplest to install and require the least amount of maintenance.

2) Mortise Lock – these tend to be a bit more expensive than the standard cylindrical lock, however for the price they offer a significantly higher level of security. The lock is installed into a mortise (pocket) which is precisely cut into the door at the factory. When this has been done a separate cylinder is nstalled within the lock in order to secure the door. The mortise lock is then operated by a lever or a handle which is fitted on either side. The downside to these types of locks is that they can be fairly tricky to install and it may be the case that some DIY enthusiasts will have difficulty accurately creating a properly sized mortise hole in the door.

3) Exit Device – This type of security device is the sort which is used to lock a door as well as to help the occupants exit more safely during an emergency. For this type of locking device a pish pad is mounted across the width of the door on one side, whilst on the other side some kind of operational trim is installed. This push pad connects to a locking body which is known as a chassis. This contains a cylinder which keeps the door secure. When stood on the outside of the door the user must have a key to unlock the unit, or the device can be left in an unlocked state so as to allow free entry and exit. These kinds of devices can be particularly difficult to install and may require specific and extensive door preparation.

4) Electric locks – these locks use a combination of the cylindrical lock’s body and the traditional mortise. They come with additional and integral security wiring so that rather than use a key, a simple push button or card reader can be used to operate them. Employees could then use an access card in order to release the lock or security workers could release the lock remotely with a release switch. This type of lock can be fail-safe (automatically unlocked if there is a power cut) or fail-secure (automatically locked).

5) Interconnected locks – these devices combine a deadbolt and latch function into one unit. They are most commonly used in flats and apartments to provide a cost effective and at the same tim high level of security. Due to the simple locking and unlocking mechanism it is easy to provide an occupant exit. When stood on the outside the lock is opened with a key, which then allows the door to be opened with a lever or knob. When the occupant inside turns the knob, the door will automatically unlock and open with a simple movement.

6) High level security locks – these locks are specifically designed for applications which require more security than is traditionally offered by mechanisms such as the mortise lock. High security locks contain patented keyways and cyclinders which make them extremely difficult to be picked or tampered with. Even regular locksmithing locks do not work with high security locks and outside of the factory it is impossible to duplicate them. These locks come in the form of deadbolts or mortise units and are used in government, financial and military buildings.

This Italian manufacturer of vehicle security systems was founded way back in 1987 and some 22 years later, remains a prominent force in the UK industry. Perhaps one of their most recognised benefits is their incredible value for money.

Unlike Datatool, Laserline is possibly better known for its range of car and commercial vehicle security devices (and is a very popular choice for the Motorhome owner), rather than purely Bike Security. However, for over a decade we have been installing their bike products in more quantity than anything else they supply. The Laserline ease of installation and exceptional reliability has won them the respect of almost every professional vehicle security installer in the industry.

Laserline offers the biker a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser, namely the Laserline 862TH/TL and a Thatcham Category 2 immobiliser, the Laserline 921TM.

The 862TH/TL is an ingenious device, coming in two options; TH if being fitted in a horizontal position and TL if being positioned vertically. This is due to the internal tilt and motion sensor, which basically acts as an electronic gyroscope. It therefore, needs to be positioned according to how it will sit once installed to the bike.

Operated remotely, the 862TH/TL comes with a pair of waterproof remote controls. It also offers the biker the power to delete lost or stolen remote controls via a coded key, which is a true advantage, especially as current climates have seen key theft on the rise. This system also comes with 120dB battery back-up siren which continues to sound even if it loses power or its wires are cut; a self reference tilt sensor which knows the angle the Bike is mounted; dual circuit automatic engine immobilisation and a ?sleep mode? current drain of just 0.5ma.

However, what attracts people to this system more than anything is its price tag of just

Icats Car Security System

In the present era, car theft has become a key concern for many car owners, which even puts a great impact on car manufacturers. There are some car buyers who wish to buy a new set of wheels but change their decision and buy a used car just because they are afraid of the car being stolen. This directly affects the new car market and also ignites car manufacturers to introduce features and device that may save their car models from theft.

Keeping the security of cars in mind, Maruti Udyog introduced iCATs. iCATs, an acronym for intelligent Computerized Anti-Theft system?, is a car security system introduced by Maruti Udyog. The company has introduced this in its entire range of car models to reduce the possibilities and car theft.

Working of iCATs

iCATs is an electronically controlled device that mainly works on digitally encrypted codes. The system is tamper-proof and works on the principle of multiplexed communication, a system of simultaneous communication of varied information on the same circuit.

A transponder is inbuilt into the car keys along with an encrypted code and a unique electronic identification. This transponder digitally communicates with the electronic control unit of the car. When the car keys are inserted into the ignition lock, the transponder inbuilt in the keys sends signals to the control unit. On receiving these signals, the computer matches the secret codes and verifies the electronic identification. If these codes match with each other, the engine will ignite and if in case there is a mismatching, the car will not start. This in turn prevents the car from being stolen.

Standard Feature

The concept of car anti-theft device is not mandatory in India but Maruti still feels the need to make iCATs a standard feature across all its car models. The decision of making this mandatory is attributed to the growing numbers of car theft and lower rate of recovery.

Apart from Maruti Suzuki, cars manufacturers like Toyota Motors, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd and Ford Motors have also fitted a number of security devices like keyless entry, car alarms and remote-control locking compulsory in their range of car models.

If you have an area that wishes secured and you only desire certain people access to that area, a card access system should be something you should think about. Security can be pricey, so everybody wants the best security that they can get without having to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Hiring a genuine person to observe a door or a lobby costs more than simply wage ; you will to think about benefits, vacation and all of the other things that go together with hiring a real person.

A card access system includes the software to run the system, door controllers, card reader and access cards. These card systems don’t just limit themselves to doors. They can be employed in conjunction with turnstiles, too. These access systems are customarily used with other security devices, such as closed circuit cameras.

By using a card access system, you can manage a complete building with lots of staff and at the same time, are able to micromanage down to a single employee. This isn’t just about letting someone in a door, you can set the software to allow or reject somebody at a work station. If you have several buildings in your company, these card systems can handle all that, as well.

Workers will be hired and fired. Instead of having to wade thru various settings, you utterly remove a worker at the time of separatio and not need to remember every single area they had access to. As workers get promoted or demoted, their access to specific areas may change. Instead of having to make up a new card, you will only need to have your security chief go into the program and make the suitable authorization changes.

Another benefit to using a card access system is the software is highly compatible with payroll software. Staff will not need to fill out time sheets or punch a time card. This will also reduce any disputes when a person arrived or left their position. And it gets rid of any issues of workers fudging time sheets or having staff slapping each other out at the end of the day. This should also reduce the amount of folk required for payroll functions.

If you decide on the smart card access system, this could give you extra security if use the smart cards to log staff on and off your network. An IT office will tell you that one of the most important Problems they have is getting staff to log off at the end of the day.

Another would be people forgetting their passwords or writing them down in plain places around their desks. These issues can lead to unauthorized access to your network and the sensitive files that reside there. A card access system isn’t just about opening a door; it can supply physical and logical protection to your corporation.

If you have an area that needs secured and you only want certain people access to that area, a card access system should be something that you should consider. Security can be expensive, so everyone wants the best security that they can get without having to pay an arm and a leg for it.

You have a room or an entire building that you need to restrict access to and you do not the latest and greatest security out there a card access system might fill your need. Hiring a real person to watch a door or a lobby costs more than just wage; you will to consider benefits, vacation and all the other things that go along with hiring an actual person.

The access cards, door controls, card readers and software are the main components of every card access system. Without reference to the size of your business, this security prevention system will serve your wishes beyond your expectancies.

A card access system is easily scalable to any size business. It can used to monitor one door or it can handle multiple buildings and the all the doors in those buildings. You have the option of using the card system to allow or reject access to workstations, too.

A massive internal security concern is the event of a worker separation. It is one thing when the separation occurs on good terms. However if the separation occurs with a discontented employee this could be a severe risk to security. The software for the card access system closes the opening in security and the steps are relatively easy. By changing a pair settings, your security officer can block access to all or any staff. This can also come in useful as employees change departments.

A card access system can reduce the man-hours required in your payroll department. By synchronizing the access system software to the payroll software, you’ll be able to record the time of arrival and departure of every employee. No longer will there be the necessity for time cards or time sheets. Using the cards will decrease the amount of time discrepancies and worker time theft.

You get the upgraded version that comes with smart cards that will not only dictate access to physical access but network access too. IT departments all have the same issues when it comes to potential security issues. Workers regularly won’t log off their workstations at the end of the day. This allows someone else to easily access our company’s delicate documents and files.

Passwords are becoming a thing of the past and many are satisfied that there are possible choices. People forget passwords and they need them reset. And those that do not need their password reset, have written it down and stored it under their keyboard or right on the monitor. A lot of employees to don’t recollect to log off before they leave for the day, the smart card will log a user out and prevent unwanted users on your network.

The internet facilitates open and easy communication across the globe, and has made e-commerce possible. However, because of its unregulated nature, it poses a threat to the security of e-commerce systems. Hence, as an e-business owner, you should be ready to address an array of e-commerce security issues.

Here are some of the common problems created by hackers:

? Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks that will prevent authorized users from accessing your website. If this happens too often, your customers will walk away.

? Gaining access to sensitive data such as price lists, catalogues and intellectual property, and copying, changing or destroying the same. Who hasn?t been a victim of virus attack at some time?

? Altering your website. Unscrupulous rival companies might resort to such tactics in order to spoil your company?s image.

? Directing your customers to another site. You do the hard work, and someone else reaps the benefits.

Hence, you should introduce adequate e-commerce security control measures to reduce the risk to your systems. But remember, these controls should not be so restrictive that they impact the efficiency of your business.

Authentication: This is the technique of positively identifying someone seeking to access your e-commerce system. This usually involves any or all of the following:

? Assigning a user name and password combination to registered visitors.

? Instituting a two-factor verification process that requires confirmation of information known only to authentic users. For example, asking for an authentication token and a personal identification number.

? Scanning a person’s unique physical attribute such as a fingerprint or facial-feature.

Access control: In this type of control, access is restricted based on a need to know. This limits the number of people who can access a particular piece of information, and therefore reduces the risk of misdemeanor.

Encryption: This technique uses technologies like virtual private networks (VPNs) and secure socket layers (SSLs) to protect information that is being displayed on a computer or transmitted over a network. Companies like banks, which deal with sensitive information will most certainly encrypt data.

Firewall: This is either software or hardware that protects a server, network or computer system from attack by viruses and hackers. It is also a safeguard against user negligence. Many companies use the Kerberos protocol which uses symmetric secret key cryptography to restrict access to authorized employees.

Intrusion detection system (IDS): It inspects all inbound and outbound network activity and identifies any attempt being made to gain illegal access. If IDS suspects an attack, it generates an alarm or sends out an e-mail alert.

The importance of e-commerce security cannot be overemphasized. If your business strategy envisages the use of the internet, make sure that your systems are adequately protected. Books like ?The Business of E-commerce: From Corporate Strategy to Technology? and ?Security Becomes A Business Requirement For E-Commerce Companies? from might be useful in order to deepen your understanding. You may not realise this but the security industry has consistently placed in the top 10 growth industries world-wide for the last 20 years. If you are a gambler it’s a safe bet to state it will remain in the top ten list of growth industries world-wide for the next 20 plus years.

If you doubt that statistic then ask yourself if you consider the world is a safer place now than it was 20 years ago. Of course it is now far more dangerous; the war on global terror has by definition bitten the western world on the backside.

Closer to home we are facing another major security problem, that of increased numbers of crimes being committed against small, medium and large businesses.

Contrary to popular belief, security is one of the best deterrents against business crime.

Whenever any European security expert discusses business security products it’s only a matter of time before the phrase, “Paxton access business security from the Paxton group” enters the conversation.

Few can deny that the current economic downturn has led to a significant increase in organised crime and crimes of opportunity targeted against businesses. This increase is nothing new and has historically increased through every major economic downturn or credit crunch since statistics began to be collated.

Hundreds of thousands of people being kicked out of work and forced to live on the meagre financial benefits offered by the welfare state is a recipe for increased crime statistics. It’s only natural that a small percentage of normally law abiding citizens will turn to opportunistic crime. Sadly this is bad news for the business fraternity as some of these born again thieves justify the targeting of businesses as a victimless crime. They excuse it to themselves because they believe the business will recoup its losses from its insurance company.

Unfortunately for many businesses the current credit crunch means many businesses have had to tighten their financial belts and two of the first things to go are business security and business insurance. A number of uninsured businesses never recover from a critical incident like a major theft or fraud. When one considers that a very high percentage of businesses have never invested in a security audit; and given that 0ver 50% of businesses don’t have a business continuity plan in place, and of the 50% who do, 90% of them have never tested their business continuity plan, it,s no wonder so many suffer.

Most businesses understand it when a security expert informs them that there is no such concept as 100% security. Savvy businesses understand that the key to minimising security risk is to employ a security expert on retainer who will implement an immediate security audit.

A security audit is a generally delivered as a low cost business expert consultancy service. It should be specifically designed to ensure the business owner/s achieve a significant reduction in their security risk at an affordable price. A professional European security audit can cost as little as 500 from a qualified security expert.

Paxton access business security from the Paxton group is really a verbal description of a security comfort blanket. Paxton provides a full one stop shop of Paxton Access control products all specifically designed to reduce your business security risk.

When considering the article, Paxton access business security from the Paxton group, it is worth mentioning that Paxton are a high tech provider of access control security products. The Paxton net2 product range is backed up by an entire range of other Paxton security products including sophisticated Paxton software. The Paxton net2 Once again any security expert worth their salt will inform you that the basis of all good security systems begin with access control and in todays market it is difficult to beat Paxton access control systems. Paxton appear to have come from nowhere into becoming one of Europe’s industry leaders in the provision of security products.

Paxton security often referred to as Paxton International offer a comprehensive range of Paxton products which include a Paxton reader which when partnered with Paxton access cards, Paxton key fobs and a net2 ensure a potential security breach through your Paxton access system is minimised.

The only downside of Paxton is that there’s no point sitting at your computer and typing in “www” Paxton unless you are a registered security installer as Paxton don’t like selling their Paxton acces or security products to members of the general public. However the brand is so much of an industry leader that it’s well worth contacting a security expert to order your products because they are quickly gaining a reputation as one of the security industry leaders.

I hope you found Paxton access business security from the Paxton group a useful security read.
