The deadbolt lock broke on my apartment door and not even the landlords key was able to open it. We had no other option but to call a locksmith. The locksmith said that the lock probably broke because it was old and it was no fault of mine. Is it my responsibility to pay the bill or that of my landlord?

I will offer to pay for it, I would just feel alot safer this way. Can my new landlord legally refuse? I don’t see why he would care, I’d actually be doing him a favor. What do you think? Thanks!

I am moving into a new place at the end of the month. I am going to ask permission to have the apartment re-keyed. I will offer to pay for it and of course I will give the landlord copies of the keys. I would just feel more comfortable knowing that the door has new keys. Can he refuse to let me?
